when he stepped in front of an auto driven by H.D. Hawthorne of Martinsburg in front of the E.M. Robertson feed store on South Washington. Mr. Barwick stepped from one of the Bollinger express wagons directly in front of the machine which threw him to the pavement. The contact with the car and the brick of the street inflicted a deep scalp wound. He was taken to St. Joseph's hospital by Mr. Hawthorne and since having his wound dressed has been somewhat better although his condition is still very serious.
The death of ~BCharles Barwick~b who struck by an automobile Saturday afternoon Saturday night at 11:30 o'clock at St. Joseph's hospital. While alighting from a Bollinger express wagon which he was driving Mr. Barwick was struck and knocked down by an automobile driven by H.D. Hawthorne of Martinsburg, receiving a fracture at the base of the skull which caused his death. The deceased is survived by his wife, Lilly, and six children, Ada, Sherman, Eugene, Blanche, Dorothy and Florence. The funeral services which whill be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family residence in Mowery's Addition, South Ottumwa, will be conducted by Rev. B. F. Patt
